July 7th Fishing Report
The only way to describe the Salmon Fishing the first week of July around Esperanza was "insane"! There were huge concentrations of small bait fish, immature herring at places like low rock, Pin Rock, Outer Black and offshore of Catella Island. Double headers were common, and limits of Chinook were had virtually every trip, often after only a couple of hours. There were a lot of "teenagers" around. but some larger fish to 30 Lbs as well. With the small bait replacing the squid the hot ticket became small spoons. Skinny Gs or any other small spoon, and popular colours were cop car and no bananas. With a change in the weather the fish seemed to move on and it slowed down for a couple of days, but has bounced back by the time of writing this report. With the bait came lots of Humpback whales in close to shore, allowing guests to enjoy hot fishing and whales breaching! An added bonus has been very light winds for the last 5 days, so very pleasant fishing conditions. With good offshore access the halibut and bottom fishing has been productive as well.
